Need more presentations

Alex and I have been bouncing around that perhaps we need fewer meetings to ensure that we get more high quality presenattions. Right now we struggle in getting any presenters at all. Fewer meetings will a) allow more time to find presenters and b) get a larger mass of people attending.

OTOH

On the other hand, montly meetings are easier to skip and lose momentum. Does ZPUG *have* momentum? IDK...

Its hard to say how many people care anyway. 8? 10? 20?

I think the biggest meeting was probably when Alexander Limi was present, but I could be wrong... that was perhaps 25 people.

True but...

I think the opportunity to increase the quality of the presentations is worth the risk of losing momentum, which we do have. More importantly we also have the opportunity to be very productive and successful in 2006 with the growth of the community and possibly more national recognition and affiliation with other ZPUGs.

Monthly with compelling presentations, ad hoc workshops?

Agreed with Paul: if we drop to monthly, we need compelling presentations to get people interested, else we'll lose momentum.

Would anyone else be interested in ad hoc workshop type meetings, where we work something out or learn from each other?

How do we encourage new folks to get involved with ZPUG? I've been proselytizing but haven't brought in any converts yet.

Ad hoc meetings + growing the community

I think we need to get monthly meetings *right* before we tackle the subject of ad hoc meetings. Plus a thriving monthly group will foster ad hoc meetings, bootcamps, sprints, etc. As for growing the community I think a strong and active web site (which includes details about the meetings) will go along way towards bringing in newcomers who may glance at zpugdc.org and say either "this is the place to be" or "there is not too much going on here" depending on how successful we are ;-)
