Best introductory Plone/CMF book?

Hi. I'm a reasonably capable Zope-ite and Python programmer, but
haven't yet done anything with CMF & Plone, and it looks like they
might be very helpful for a site I would like to do.

Would anyone care to recommend the best book (online or dead-tree) for
Plone and CMF? I'm looking for something that will get down into the
details and allow me to significantly modify sites based on these
technologies, not a "how-to" book.

Thanks,

Patrick

Patrick,

I would highly recommend the Definite Guide to Plone by Andy McKay:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1590593294

It does a nice job of introducing the basics but also digs a lot deeper
into stuff like TAL, METAL, Plone skins, content types, Zope Products and
Archetypes.

Plone Content Management Essentials by Julie C. Meloni is one I haven't
read but seems to aimed towards an audience with less technical
proficiency:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0672326876

Finally there's also Building Websites with Plone by Cameron Cooper. This
one looks comparable to McKay's book based on the Amazon description. I
might pick this one up for the heck of it myself...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1904811027

HTH,

Cliff Meyers

Hello Patrick,

You might also want to visit ZopeMag's review of Andy's book:

We are planning to review Cameron's Book in Issue 10.
